It’s amazing how quickly things can change in a moment.

A cold, dreary, lonesome day can be transformed by a 10 minute call with a friend. An exhausting evening can be redeemed in the opening notes of your favourite show’s theme song and a relaxing knitting project in your lap. Our frantic holiday preparations can become an exercise in mindfulness if we give ourselves the grace to be less than perfect and only focus on the traditions that bring us the most happiness.

When so many things feel as if they’re out of our hands, the heartening truth is that sources of comfort and joy usually are within reach. Let’s allow ourselves to hold tight to the things that hearten us, and let go of the things that don’t.

The Hearten Mitts were designed to match with their friend, the Hearten Cowl. If you made that using 20g minis, you can use up the leftovers here! But because these mitts are a scrappy project, you can put together any little odds and ends you might have lying around and they’ll turn out perfectly. They’ll also look beautiful in self-striping yarn or a special variegated skein you’ve had hiding in your stash for a while: the simple chevron pattern suits just about any yarn.

These are very simple, fingerless mitts without a thumb, so they can also be wristwarmers…or just keep going and make an extra-cosy pair of armwarmers! With an adult and child size to choose from, they’ll make a joyful present for many of your favourite humans.
