This cap starts at the brim using the long-tail cast-on method with red yarn. The brim is designed to be folded, so it is knitted in the round, up to 8 or 10 inches with brioche rib. The crown is knitted in navy, color stranded with white. To finish, decrease stitches are knitted until there are few enough stitches to cinch the top.

The cap is inspired by our American flag, except the very simple one-stitch color stranding resembles a heart rather than a star. The symbolic reference is for a peaceful transition of our current social events to move forward into healing the state of our country.
