Hearts 7x7 is a baby blanket, but can be easily made into a prayer shawl, a scarf, a wall hanging…

Mine is done in one piece, in intarsia. To do it in stranding switch colors so that one square is pink, next blue etc, like a checkerboard. The hearts will change accordingly: blue on pink background, pink on blue.

Size: approx. 32” x 32” (easily stretches to 35 x 35”).
(To make it a little bigger knit a bigger border, to make a much bigger blanket add a row of squares).
You can also change size by using different size needles & yarn.
Yarn: Assorted. Whatever you have at home that works more or less with the needle size you’ll use. I used:
Blue: approx. 70 y/63 m per color per 7 squares (8-10 yards per square).
Pink: approx. 35 y / 32 m per color per 7 hearts.
White/border yarn: 80 y / 72 m.
Needles: #9US / 5.5 mm
Gauge: 15 sts and 20 rows = approx. 4” / 10 cm. Size will vary a bit with the different yarns.
Note: the ratio between sts and rows here is 3 to 4. Any 3/4 ratio will work well, but will produce different size. 3/4 ratio = 9sts/12rows or 12/16 or 18/24 or 21/28.

Knitting the squares is made easy by moving the squares blue yarns to the left on RS rows (rows 21, 41, 61…),
and moving the heart pink yarns to the left on WS rows (which will move them to the right on the right side, to create more ‘activity’).

The border I made is a mixture of seed (for the border yarn) and st.st for the ‘windows’. But any border that lays flat will do (crochet/garter/seed etc).

Hope you’ll enjoy it :)
