A stockinette stitch based lace scarf which is worked from the center out to the finished edges. This scarf starts with a provisional cast on and is knit out to half the desired length. The live stitches are picked up from the provisional cast on and the second half of the scarf is knit out from the center to mirror the first half and the desired length.

Use size 3 or 4 straight or circular needles. Gauge is open for lace. Knit a swatch of each pattern element (Vine Lace and Bleeding Hearts) and block it to determine if your chosen yarn and needles produce a fabric that is pleasing to you. The Bleeding Heart pattern produces a slightly more open fabric than the Vine Lace.
