Slipping on your favorite boots and mittens, Buttoning up your warmest jacket. Calling the Turkey’s in for feed time. Bundling the wheat shafts for the birds. Pulling your sled through the snow to find the perfect tree. Sitting by the fire stringing popcorn as you snuggle under your favorite throw. Reading stories by the crackling fire. Needles:
40” circs US size 0 - 2 depending gauge. I like to work the cuff one size down from needle I use for sock body.

Yarn:
Fingering weight sock yarn of your fiber choice. I suggest a wool, nylon blend for durability.

You will need two or three colors for your plaid and 2 colors for your embellishments. I suggest high contrast colors so your designs pop. If you want your color work to pop more make sure to use solid yarns. Traditional Plaids tend to be Red and Black (Maroon) or Black and White (Gray). Tan and Brown make charming Hedgehogs and Mushrooms.

Yardage will depend on foot size. Follow the yardage requirements typically needed to knit socks in your foot size. Further yardage suggestions in pattern.

The Hedgehogs and Mushrooms are great uses for scrap yarn and stash busting.

Gauge:
Roughly 16 stitches to 2 inches wide and 22 rows to 2 inches high.

Notions:
Stitch markers, or scrap yarn, to mark center of heels.
Crochet hook in small size or tapestry needle to work in ends.

Sizes:
Women’s XS, S, M and L with instructions to make smaller or larger, meaning you can easily make children’s or men’s sizes.

The photos in this pattern show a size S with XS heel.
