Chunky weight: 50, 70, 75 (80, 100, 120) (150, 190, 240,280) yards

When ordering yarn, I suggest you purchase for one to two sizes up as yardage needed varies depending upon gauge. This will also allow you to make adjustments without risking running out of yarn.

Yarn colors:

  1. Main mitten color
  2. Brown (Mushrooms and Hedgehogs, Optional)
  3. Tan (Mushrooms and Hedgehogs, Optional)
  4. Red, orange, ect (Mushrooms, Optional)

Mini skeins of accent colors should be plenty for each chart This project is a great stash buster, so if you have anything laying around you can use up, I suggest that.

Mushrooms can be any color you desire. The higher the contrast the shade, the more they will pop. I have provided examples of several options, from neutral tone mushrooms, to bright.

I suggest neutral tones for the Hedgehogs.

These mittens are knit in the round from cuffs to fingertips, with increases for the thumb gussets. The thumb is knit last.

Links for tutorials on multiple stretchy cast on methods, Suzie Sparkles rib stitch and Duplicate stitch provided in pattern.

Notes:
If you plan to add a liner to your mittens, I suggest knitting the mittens liner in the desired size, in a yarn weight down from desired mitten yarn weight. Then knitting the outer shell in one yarn size up and one mitten size up for best comfort and fit.
I suggest knitting the liner first, then picking up the stitches at the edge of the cuff, and knitting the shell. Once finished and ends are worked in, just invert the liner and tuck inside the shell.
When you wash your mittens, pull the liner out, gently hand wash and hang to dry, then tuck the liner back inside. (Make sure to adjust yardage)

If you are knitting for kids and they are at a cusp size, you may want to knit one size up to allow growing room.

If you or the child like too layer, such as mittens over light gloves, you may want to knit one size up to allow gloves to fit under comfortably.
For children I suggest considering knitting a cord, long enough to reach from finger tip to finger tip and attaching to each mitten. This can be fed through coat sleeves to prevent kiddos from losing their mittens.
Do NOT use a cord for Infants! It could be a choking/ strangle hazard.

Skills needed:
Knit in the round
Magic loop or double pointed needles
Stretchy cast on
Suzie Sparkles ribbing
Duplicate stitch

Slip slip knit
