November 2007 Sockaholics Pattern

From the pattern:
Around this time of the year, the sock-of-the-month pattern has always been, at least for us, something fun, slightly frivolous, and anything but practical. The yarn selection is usually a little more luxurious, and maybe not the most hard-wearing yarn for socks. This year’s holiday selection is Sheep Three from Sheep Shop Yarn Company. A 70/30 Wool/Silk sport weight, it’s supersoft with a bit of sheen. To match this gorgeous yarn, I wanted to create an unusual but fun pattern. What about a sock knit beginning with the heel? At first, I didn’t see any particular reason for this except for the novelty of the design. But then, once I began crafting a unique heel pattern, I discovered that the shape and structure a heel-out sock provides allows for an exceptionally comfortable, stable, and fitted heel. Thus, the world premiere of my “Tulip Heel”. Enjoy!
