In most knitting patterns the round gauge is secondary to the stitch gauge. If the stitches per inch are a match the round gauge can be fudged by working to the length you want rather than completing a certain number of rounds. However, in a pattern such as this you’ll want to make sure you’re getting the rounds per inch as stated (5.5 per inch). The reason for this is due to the crown decreases being specific to the pattern of each round. As written the length of the hat is 7.5” from the bottom edge to center crown.
