a collaboration between circle of stitches and sunflower knit.

in the same way that samhain can mean trickery to some and celebration to others, hearing the name of a plant can frighten or calm someone. differences among regions can add to the potential chaos. hemlock is likely to raise a fright among most due to its infamous poisonous nature, but in canada and the eastern united states, hemlock is merely a coniferous tree. hemlock is associated with samhain, so i will let you decide which plant to incorporate into your witch’s new year festivities.

this shawl’s repeating lace is meant to mimic the overlapping layers on the hemlock cones, but it is up to you to decide which colour of harrisville’s flywheel to use and how it impacts your final impression of this accessory imbued with protection.
