This headband was inspired by Hermione, my favorite curly haired student of Hogwarts in the beloved Harry Potter books by JK Rowling.

Hermione has wildly curly hair, and particularly in her younger years, she finds it difficult to control. The other day in conversation, one of my friends mentioned that she loved the idea of Hermione’s Yule Ball Headband taming her curls. When I looked into the description from the novels so that I could try to design such a thing, I discovered that JK Rowling actually leaves quite a bit for the reader to imagine.

Looking a little further into some design elements from the films, I discovered that the costuming team created some stunning knitwear for the later films. While I didn’t find much about the headband, I did come across the stunning Green Mountain Spinnery yarn in a delightful periwinkle heather colorway. The actual structure of the headband is inspired by Harry’s sweater with a six plait cable up the front and Ron’s sweater, which features several two plait cables curling toward the center zip.

I hope you enjoy knitting this little delight--I found it delightful to knit and the yarn a joy to work with.
