This pattern creates a warm, textured baby beanie and cocoon using worsted weight yarn and a size J crochet hook. The herringbone half double crochet stitch is used to create the beautiful texture. Decorative buttons are sewn on the tabs of the beanie’s brim and the cocoon’s top edge. Caron Simply Soft works well for this project, but any light worsted weight yarn will do.

The finished beanie will measure approximately 5” from the top of the hat to the edge and should fit a newborn with head circumference between 12” and 14”. The finished cocoon measures 18” long and has a circumference of 21”.
