This Tutorial doesn’t contain any hexagon patterns.
The Stars you see here are made using the hexagons: African flower, hexagon how-to by Attic24 and an adaption of the Sunburst Granny Square.
You can also use this Tutorial for triangles, squares and octagons. The way you do it stays the same.
My Stars are 20cm from point to point.

NOTE: Seems like the first pdf I uploaded was broken. I replaced it by a new version which is complete!
