This hat was inspired by the Tomten of Scandinavian folklore. These gnome-like creatures with long woolen hats are known to watch over children and animals at night, making sure everyone is safe.

This long cabled hat is crocheted back and forth in rows (from bottom to top) and then seamed along a decrease edge to form earflaps and a pointed top. The cable section, because of its taller stitch height, causes the hat to curve along the top and makes a lovely widows-peak shape that frames a baby’s face so nicely.
