The High Rye Hat features bold lace medallions and a big, cozy brim. It’s simple and geometric and feels incredibly classic in a worsted weight wool. Curved lines and just a bit of texture in the motif create balanced and elegant proportions here.

The ribbed brim flows right into the motif, so it can be knit shallow and worn without a fold if you prefer. The lace detail is just enough to stand out, without being fussy. And the squishy crown plays off the shaping near the top, bunching up perfectly in sections around the center.

A bouncy, round Merino and Corriedale blend gives the lace some heft, preventing the lace hat feeling too delicate for winter wear. Instead, it’s got a little chunk to it, which will go perfectly next to a wool coat.

I liked this one so much that once I finished, I reached for another skein and knit it again. It’s my fond farewell to a favorite fiber.

Samples shown in the Cabernet and Aspen colorways.

Worsted-weight yarn needed. If substituting, a Corriedale, Rambouillet, Cormo or Merino blend should provide a similar feel.

As I hinted at above, this yarn won’t be available for much longer, as Meghan and Sloane are closing up shop at Hudson + West.

If you have a some Forge in your yarn cabinet, I hope I’ve given you a reason to enjoy this gorgeous, bouncy fiber once more! And if you don’t have any but want to give it a go before it’s gone, they’ve just restocked the entire website with one last shipment from the mill, so grab a few skeins while you can!

If you’re a sweater knitter, check out my Angel’s Envy or Que Syrah Syrah, both also designed for Forge. The navy is absolutely perfect, and that pink is soft and sophisticated!

And as luck would have it… it’s time to give all my previous patterns a little bump before releasing the shiny new things! Feel free to use the Ravelry code FIRSTFALL for 25% off High Rye - or ANY of my other self published designs - until Sunday Aug 31 at midnight EST.
