If you are ready to take your knitting completely off road, Freeform is the way to go! This totally template-based approach is multidirectional and doesn’t depend on gauge.

Template: pick your size and make your life-size template of fabric or Pellon, then make the style adjustments indicated in the pattern.

Yardage: Check the approximate yardage noted on page 125 of the book to allow for your size, using the gauge you will be using. This sweater uses approximately nine skeins of Koigu, plus two skeins for the garter ridges and one or two more skeins for the frequently color changes within the modular shapes.

Check the yardage on the ball band and see how many balls or skeins you’ll need, then divide that into as many colors as you’d like. My estimate of 13 skeins allows me to have up to 12 different colors plus I added 3 more of 1 color for the bands and trim.
