From the book:

Several years ago there was a huge baby boom among my friends, and I needed a new baby pattern that would hold my interest and be fun to knit. The idea of bunnies hopped into my head, so I sketched the bunny shape, transferred it to graph paper, and plotted out the pattern. A lot of cutting and pasting went into positioning these rascally rabbits on the blanket until I was happy with the number of buns and the directions they faced. I love this design because the motif would be adorable on a sweater, a pillow, or whatever you can think of to satisfy your rabbit habit.
