The Hippo Tea Cosy Knitting Pattern was inspired by a love of hippos, they are such adorable animals and I knew a hippo would make a fantastic tea cosy. I studied photos of hippos when I sketched my design to get the head and jaw as realistic as possible.

I wanted to give my Hippo a gaping mouth and have its teeth visible. I think hippos look incredible with their mouths open, they look so intimidating. I didn’t go for the full on gape, and instead have made the lower jaw just falling away; relaxing.

I have stood the hippo on a nice grassy patch on the bank. The grass part of the cosy has a lovely stitch that gives the impression of long grass.

The hippo cosy is a lovely tea cosy to knit and it’s quite quick to make.

The pattern is knitted on two pins and is easy to follow.

The tea cosy fits a medium sized teapot that holds 6 to 8 cups or 2 pints.

The pattern will be available for digital download as soon as you have completed purchase, so One could start knitting the hippo tea cosy very soon!
