The super bulky yarn and stranded mosaic design of this pattern create a warm hat, full of texture and movement. While the intricate looking pattern appears complicated, it’s actually deceptively easy to work!

The twisted stitches of the hat’s stretchy ribbing prevent slippage while maintaining a crisp appearance.

The design can be worked with a single color of yarn or with two contrasting colors.

To highlight the stranded nature of the mosaic design, the pattern is best worked with a roving-type super-bulky yarn such as Malabrigo “Rasta”, Knit Picks “Tuff Puff” or Blue Sky “Bulky”. The “Rasta” will result in a hat of about 21” in circumference and the “Tuff Puff” or “Bulky” will result in a hat of about 22” in circumference.

Also, you can substitute 2-strands of a bulky yarn like Knit Picks “Wool of the Andes Bulky” for the super-bulky yarn. (See this project for a sample.)

Top your hat with a purchased fur pom-pom or make one using Knit Picks’ super-soft “Fable Fur” yarn!
