It is double thickness throughout and form fitting. The button collar keeps her neck nice and warm and, since it too is double thick, keeps out the cold Minnesota winter winds.

Starting with a crochet chain, picking up stitches on both side of it and knit back and forth (with some shaping here and there) til you want it as deep as you want, then reverse the shaping.

It is then folded in on itself and stitches are picked up and knit around the bottom for the neck band. When that is as long as you want it, knit it it that many rows again, fold it in half and using a 3 needle bind off technique, bind the live stitches off where you originally picked up stitches.

The finishing is neat and tidy.

Pattern is written for one size but is easily adaptable to fit any size head.
