Horney toad Slippers
Crochet Pattern in 3 Adult Sizes

Design Notes

My first frog pattern design was for the “Frog Kisser” baby booties in our collection. We had such an overwhelming response from people asking for them in all sizes that we couldn’t resist the challenge. That led me to think that what is fun for a girl might be fun for a boy as well. That’s where these “Horney Toad Slippers” came into being. I really wanted them to be reminiscent of Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn and their days at play along the banks of the Mississippi. They’re such fun though I think girls will enjoy them just as well.

To maximize warmth I have designed them in half double crochet throughout and used a smaller than might be expected hook size. This close stitching lends to the warmth of the shoes (I can’t stand cold feet!) and also lends to the structured shape of the frogs.

I call this an intermediate pattern because the crochet stitching throughout is actually very basic. If you have your basic stitches down you shouldn’t find it too taxing. It does involve some construction. If you’ve ever sewn a stuffed animal you get the idea. If sewing is new to you then I’ve offered detailed instructions but a first time for everything requires some patience. In general though, even that is pretty basic. I want our patterns to be as workable for beginners as they are for the pros so if the instructions seem wordy at times please bear in mind that some people are just learning and we want everyone to be included.

This pattern includes three childrens sizes. You can find the adult sizes and baby booties, as well as the “Frog Kisser” cousin slippers + lots more, on our web site.

I have also specially designed the “Mushroom Socks” just for this design. The instructions are available separately because being socks, they are a knit pattern. If you haven’t tried knitting yet then socks are probably a better 2nd or 3rd project. They are a very easy sock pattern worked up quickly in size 8 needles, so you don’t need to be an expert knitter at all to make them.

Happy Knitting!
