These mittens feature horse, the sign of 2026 in
Chinese zodiac, which is a traditional way of
counting years in Japan.
The motif of these mittens is “Yabusame”, a
traditional Japanese Shinto ritual, with a powerful
horse and arrow feather pattern.
“Yabusame” is a martial art in which a person shoots
an arrow at a target while riding a galloping horse.
Prayers are offered for peace, good harvests, and
the exorcism of evil spirits.
The mittens are worked from cuff to fingertip in the
round with double-pointed needles, or circular
needle with magic loop.

活動をスタートさせた年から続いている干支ミトンシリーズ。
毎年、皆さまの幸運を祈りながら作っているミトンです。

今回は「午年」
日本の伝統的な神事である流鏑馬（やぶさめ）をミトンに落とし込みました。
流鏑馬は、疾走する馬に乗りながら、的を弓矢で射る武芸です。
国家安泰・五穀豊穣・悪疫退散などの意味が込められています。

力強い馬を中心に、周囲はあらゆる形の矢羽根で彩っています。
上の菱形の模様も、実は矢羽根。菱刺しという伝統工芸の模様からヒントを得ています。
