I have always loved the repeating houndstooth pattern. For this vest, the pattern is large and bold and the deep V at the front is even bolder. I have paired a grey natural-colored yarn with a muted wine color, both in pure merino 8 ply. I intentionally used slightly larger needles than recommended for this yarn as I wanted the effect to be soft and light.
