My son handed me his favorite book of the Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle and asked me to make it a scarf…so I did.

These colors are merely suggestions based on the color scheme of the Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle. If you wish to obtain a longer scarf, merely add more sections.

The body of the caterpillar is worked from the inside out as a tube utilizing rows of stockinette and reverse stockinette to create segments of the body.

Yarn: Approximately 110 yds of colors A and B and 80 yds of color C
Color A – Cascade Superwash Quatro #1928 or yarns with darker green/blues
Color B – Cascade 220 Superwash Paints #9885 or yarns with green/yellows
Color C - Cascade Superwash Quatro #1956 or yarns with light blue/greens
Approximately 10 yds of red and scraps of yellow and black yarn

Needles = US Size 8 – set of 5 dpns and one 18 inch circular or size to obtain gauge
Gauge: 4.5 sts/inch in stockinette stitch.
Notions: Stitch marker, tapestry needle
