Construction: Huntingdon uses columns of twisted stitches to create a broad ribbing effect, which makes for a very stretchy beanie. The hat works up quickly using worsted weight yarn and is offered in three teen/adult sizes. The plain version is knit entirely in the round and the button tab version features a brim that is worked back and forth before joining in the round and can feature one large or several small buttons.

Skill level: Intermediate
Skills needed: Knitting in the round, 2-stitch right cables, and decreasing by k2tog and p2tog..

Size: Adult Small (Medium, Large)
Circumference: 16”, (17” 18”) unstretched (stretches to fit 21”, (23”, 25”))

Gauge: 24 sts and 32 rows per 4” in body pattern knit in the round.

Materials:

  • Smaller needle: US 6 (4.0 mm) 16” circular needles, or two sizes smaller than gauge needle

  • Larger needle: US 8 (5.0 mm) 16” circular and double-pointed needles, or size to obtain gauge

  • 120 (150, 180) yards worsted weight wool or wool blend yarn

  • Stitch Marker (Optional)

  • Yarn needle

  • Scissors

  • Optional: Buttons, needle, and thread to finish button tab brim. Use either one 1 ¾” to 2” button or two or three ½” buttons.
