This is a slightly slouchy hat / tam. The brim is mostly a simple rib with 3 sections of an Aran braid cable that continues up into the body of the hat.

This hat will fit approx. 20 - 22” head circumference when stretched. You should be familiar with knitting on circular needles in the round and knitting cable stitches.

The hat measurements after blocking are: 9 inches from brim to top of hat and 17” around before stretching.

For this hat I used Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Worsted in a new color for 2014: Galena. Any worsted weight yarn can be used but I suggest using a solid, nearly solid or tonal yarn so that you can see the cable pattern when finished.

You won’t use all of the 225 yards in the skein. I didn’t measure what I had remaining.

For blocking my hat I blocked it flat on a towel until mostly dry, then blocked it on an inflated balloon until dry. It will come out slightly slouchy but not too slouchy (unless you severely block it). If you want a more slouchy hat - you could add another cable repeat (6 row pattern repeat) if you wish.
