ACHTUNG: This pattern was updated in September 2010, to fix all errata. Your pattern PDF should have an “UPDATED 09/2010” stamp on the cover image; if not, please junk it and download a fresh copy.

Hydrocarbon is a poncho-style cowl in bulky-weight yarn, worked in the round. It was design ed to be as practical as it is stylish, with shaping that covers the neck and shoulders and the ease and length to wear with a backpack. This pattern was designed specifically to show off Clover’s MONOCHRONICLE STRAIGHT, but should lend itself well to any yarn of similar weight and properties.

This is my first shot at putting together a proper pattern, and it uses unusual yarn. As a result, I thought it better to err on the side of too much information as opposed to too little. Though this is a one-size project, I’ve taken care to include everything you need to adjust the dimensions. It’s also knit top-down and in the round, for easier yardage control.

03/27/10: The ‘extrusion’ placement stitches were off, and the PDF has been corrected. (Thank you supknitter!)
