If you have a Lilly in your life whom you love, these are the perfect socks for her! But of course, they can be perfect for anyone special. The 12th pattern in my Family of Women series, this design is inspired by my newest little granddaughter, Lillian Ruth, “Lilly”, born to my son Chris and his wife Emily on December 11, 2015. Her middle name, Ruth, honors Lilly’s great grandmother who inspired my Ruth Elisabeth shawl, and her mother Emily was the muse for my Welcome Emily shawl. I adapted a traditional Lithuanian lily motif for the cuffs of these socks, and as with many of my patterns I just couldn’t resist using heart motifs which are featured here on the feet..

These socks are knit from the top down. The pattern uses a Lithuanian heel, which is very easy to adapt to different sizes. The suggested yarns and colors were used to create the socks in the photos, which were blocked to a generous size - the feet measure 10 ” from the tip of the toe to the back of the heel, and 7 1/2 ” from the top of the cuff to the start of the heel flap. The gauge was measured after the socks were blocked.

This pattern is for experienced knitters who are familiar with sock construction, standard knitting abbreviations and techniques such as kitchener stitch. However, I like to think that my pattern instructions are written clearly so that even a beginner can tackle them!.
