These socks feature an easy winged motif in lace, spiraling down the foot. They are knit from the top (cuff) down, featuring a square heel and a shaped, wide toe. While you have the option to knit these as mirror images (with a distinct left and right sock), socks may also be knit to match - knitter’s choice. The socks are customizable for foot length and leg length as well, although alterations may affect the amount of yarn you’ll need to complete the pattern.

These socks are suitable for sock knitters with basic experience reading charts (although the lace itself is very simple) and a basic knowledge of sock construction. Adventurous beginners should be able to tackle these without any problem.

Inspired by the Greek legend of Icarus, which tells the tale of a young man who constructed a set of wings from feathers and wax, to escape the island of Crete. Despite warnings from his father, Icarus flew too close to the sun, causing the wax in his wings to melt, and he plummeted to his death in the sea.

I’m currently hosting a KAL in my Ravelry group from July through the end of August 2013!
