This is a thin, crescent shaped, sideways shawl that was specifically designed for long self-striping yarn. It was inspired by a beautiful skein of self-striping yarn, “Orange is the New Black”, hand dyed by Lisa of White Birch Fiber Arts. Of course, the colors not only reminded me of the kids’ high school team colors, but also of Halloween, which has always been a fun time to celebrate here in our home. A stitch pattern reminiscent of a spider sitting in her web made me think it was the perfect pairing to go with this yarn. A solid or a tonal yarn would certainly show off the detail of the border, as well as a gradient, or color block. This shawl is the perfect accessory to add charm to any outfit.

SHAPE: Thin crescent

NOTIONS: 2 stitch markers. Tapestry needle for weaving in ends.

PATTERN STYLE: The pattern contains written as well as chart instructions. There is a key and full abbreviation list included as well.

DIFFICULTY: Advanced Beginner

YARN: This pattern was specifically designed for long striping yarn. A solid or a tonal yarn would certainly show off the detail of the border, as well as a gradient, or color block.

SIZE: 62”x13” (Blocked and unpinned)

The beauty of the construction of this shawl is you can make as small or as large as you would like, repeating the sections according to your OWN skein’s yardage, enabling you to use very close to the entire skein of yarn.
