Size: Child (Adult)

Finished Measurements:
Scarf: 5 (6)” wide 29 (50)” long
Fringe: 3 (7)” curled
The scarf will get longer and more narrow as it is worn.

Materials: 1 skein EACH of 3 colors of Berocco Ultra Alpaca (215 yards per skein)

Colors of Sample:
A: 6292 Light Brown
B: 6280 Red Brown
C: 6240 Blue

Needles: Long Size 8 US (5 mm) circulars, or size needed for gauge

Extras: 2 stitch markers, Tapestry needle, for weaving in ends

Gauge: 16 sts and 40 rows over 4” in garter stitch - gauge is not crucial in this project but will affect yarn requirements as well as finished size.

The most important point is to choose a yarn with enough stretch to accommodate the increases in the corkscrew. Something with natural spring, like wool, will be much more fun to knit and to wear. In my experience it doesn’t need to be 100% wool.

Notes

This scarf is knitted the long way, working with each color for only three rows. The curls are created by casting on a small number, then increasing to double that in the next row, and then doubling again as you bind off.

I use the Backwards Loop Cast On in this pattern. If you’ve not used Backwards Loop (also known as Slingshot and E- Wrap, you may want to practice it - my #1 tip is to keep the points of the needles close together when you’re knitting the first row.

The sticking points in this pattern are the Increasing Bind Off and the Join Next Color. If you understand those, you can do this project.

There are infinite ways to pair colors in this scarf - I encourage stash-diving!
