This lightweight summer shawl is insprired by the incredible colours and landscape of Tongariro National Park in New Zealand. Mountain peaks form a dramatic backdrop against hard blue skies, and flurries of snow drift about, settling on the stiff alpine grass and delicate flowers that stretch out into the horizon.

Into the Mountains was designed for T&H Fiber Works using two skeins of Heather’s soft and luxurious yarns.

The pattern is Intermediate in difficulty as it requires you to ‘read’ your knitting during the lace portions to ensure that the decrease edge slopes neatly through the snowflake lace whilst maintaining the pattern.

YOU WILL NEED:
3.75mm / US 5 needles
400 yards of sock-weight yarn in T&H Fiber Works ‘Svartalfheim’ (Heather’s Favourite Sock yarn)
400 yards of sock-weight yarn in T&H Fiber Works ‘Dark Elf’ (Heather’s Favourite Sock yarn)
tapestry needle for weaving in ends
smooth scrap yarn if you want to use lifelines in the lace sections

Gauge: 26 sts and 32 rows = 4 inches in stocking stitch
