A swirling crescent of rainbow stripes inspired by little patches of bright color on insect wings.

It’s a challenging knit with lace stitches on RS and WS rows, stranding, intarsia, and long multicolored rows - a good project for using up leftovers of interesting colors or variegated yarns.

Iridescent Crescent is also available as part of the Five Colorwork Shawls eBook.

Originally published in four instalments as a mystery knit-along pattern in early 2015. There is a thread for the KAL here.

MC: 5 balls 525m/575yds of Jamieson’s Shetland Spindrift - these can be one color or a gradation of similar colors.
CC: approximately 345m/375yds in various lengths of different colors of Jamieson & Smith 2Ply Jumper Weight.
Shorter lengths can be spliced together into gradations; the longest intarsia sections require approximately 6m/6.5yds.

Needle sizes: 2.5mm/US1.5 for garter tab, 3.25mm/US3 for all the charts, and 5mm/US8 for a stretchy BO.

Dimensions: a crescent, approximately 48cm/19in deep at center back by 115cm/45in wide.

Approximate Gauge: 20 sts and 26 rows = 10cm/4in in stranded knitting on 3.25/US3 needle.

The pdf contains lots of charts, short written instructions commenting on the charts & a phototutorial for splicing yarn ends.
2 sections have more complex alternative charts, as illustrated in the second image.
