This cowl is inspired by the iconic brownstone buildings of NYC. You’ll see them featured in the movie “In The Heights” which is the first American musical movie to feature a Hispanic/Latinx cast from all different walks of life. With this cowl, we remember that representation matters and just how important visibility is! Coming from a background of half of my family being from Brazil, I’ve gone with the Portuguese word for windows, “janelas,” as the name for this project since the technique and texture make me think of those brownstones and how the windows are so close to each other on a building. I hope you enjoy making this as much as I did!
