January Shawl
With squishy rows of garter stitch interspersed with delicate eyelet stitches, this shawl is relaxing and therapeutic to knit, and comforting and cosy to wear – a perfect knit for the cold winter months. This crescent shaped shawl has a garter-tab cast-on, then is worked in rows of gradually increasing length with increases at the start of each row, making the pattern easily memorable.
SIZING
Finished shawl measures 57” (145cm) x 16” (41cm)
TENSION
Tension before blocking: 15 stitches and 28 rows over 4”/10cm in garter stitch on 6mm needles.
YARN
This shawl requires approx. 190m/207yds each of 2 different shades of Chunky/Bulky-weight yarn, or 380m/415yds in total if you prefer to use one colour.
I used 2 x 100g skeins of ‘Carneddi’ - a Lopi style yarn from Meian Yarns - a blend of Lleyn and Romney wool.
NEEDLES AND NOTIONS
6mm circular needle of at least 100cm length (or correct needle size to achieve tension)
1 stitch marker
Pattern is written in English.
