Emerald ponds and mossy waterfalls dot the landscape like gems in a display case. The trail winds its way through the forest. Green is everywhere I look, in so many tones: Light yellow greens on tender leaves, dark greens on tree needles, and verdant moss so attractively soft that it seems like Nature’s velvet.
The Jemwald cowl is inspired by the mossy nature of Jura, France. The cowl name is a word play on Jura, gem, emerald, and “wald”, German for forest.
Jemwald features two easy but beautiful lace patterns reminiscent of luxuriant vegetation, winding streams and waterfalls. The wide horizontal stitch repeat creates appealing variation in the pattern. Join us on a grand waterfall tour and knit your own forest gem.

For best effect, use a round yarn with good stitch definition. Yarn weights ranging from Fingering to Aran would be suitable. As for colorways, I would recommend solid, semi-solid, tonal variegated (without much contrast), speckled, or gradient (single skein or gradient set) yarns.

Yarn
Malabrigo Rios (Worsted; 100% Merino wool; 192 meters / 210 yards per 100 grams); 1 skein; sample uses 91 grams in color Fresco y Seco.

Needles
4.5 mm (US size 7) 80 cm / 32 inches circular needle or size to obtain gauge.

Gauge
17.5 stitches and 25.5 rows = 10 cm / 4 inches in Stockinette stitch, unblocked.
13 stitches and 26 rows = 10 cm / 4 inches in Stitch Pattern C – Mossy Waterfall, blocked.
Note: obtaining the gauge given is not crucial but will affect the finished size and the yardage needed.

Notions
Removable stitch markers: 1 in color A (beginning-of-round marker), 4 in color B (optional). Tapestry needle. Blocking pins. Blocking wires (optional).

Size
One; easily customizable.

Final measurements
Circumference (c): 101 cm / 39.75 inches, height (h): 26 cm / 10.25 inches.

Skill level
Basic stitches, increases, decreases, twisted stitches. Relatively easy to memorize stitch pattern. Easy patterning on all rounds. Lace patterning on odd rounds only. Working with a wide stitch repeat. Elastic BO.
Video tutorials are provided for the stitches and techniques used.

This pattern is worked in the round. The stitch count
remains constant throughout the whole pattern. Suggestions are given to customize the pattern.
