This is a basic top-down sock with a short-row heel and a wedge toe, suitable for beginners. I wrote the pattern to teach my knitting group how to construct socks with a yarn-over short-row heel.

The pattern is written for worsted weight yarn (about 5 stitches per inch) and an average grown woman’s foot and lower leg.

I designed the sock to be about mid-calf length; you can easily make it as long or short as you like. I use two skeins of the recommended yarn; be sure to increase your yarn amount if you want a longer sock!
