Pattern does not recommend specific yarns, only lists materials as:

Knitting worsted, 6 (4-ounce) skeins black, 1 skein each bright green, white, light yello, bright yellow, bright pink, blue and aqua.

Gauge is one motif of the pattern, which is about 5 1/4” diameter. The motifs are join-as-you-go.
