This pattern is a historical reconstruction of a cap found on a woman buried around 1745 under a church floor, on the island of Åland off the coast of Finland. Traditional designs are featured on the bands, such as carnations and other flower designs, crowns and birds. The original was double-layered-that is, knitted as a long tube with one half knitted in plain stockinette and drawn inside as a lining.
