This fun skirt would make a great addition to a number of costume styles, but was made as the beginning of a Steampunk gypsy costume. It would do equally well for a vampire, witch or any number of other themes.

This skirt is worked flat in two pieces, front and back, and then joined and worked in the round for the waistband. Knit from the bottom-up, the front and back use a series of short rows to provide the shaping. A cable is worked on each side. After the waistband is finished, the side cables are sewn together.

On short rows: If this is a new technique, I’d recommend reviewing the FREE Craftsy Class: Short Rows. http://www.craftsy.com/class/short-rows/96?_ct=iuqhsx-kdy...

I use the Yarn Over method in my piece, but your preferred method can be easily substituted.

The waistband is sized to be worn at the hips, but an elastic waist makes for an easy size adjustment. This pattern is just offered in one size, however, the style makes it simple to achieve the size you need when the elastic is added.
