Joulukuu is the month of December in Finnish. Fair isle always reminds me of colder climates and cozy hats. This is a simple to follow fair isle hat worked in the round.

Sizes
The brim is slightly smaller than the hat’s body circumference so it fits smoothly on your head. If you prefer a slouchier, less fitted hat, choose a size larger than your actual head circumference.

We used Cape May Fiber Co DK Merino (100% Superwash Merino, 231 yards, 3.5 oz /100 Gram).

COLOR A Mariana Trench (darkest black, green, blue)

(A mini skein is recommended for COLOR B, C and D. Each of the DK mini skeins are 49 yards / 20 grams)

COLOR B Sunflower Sauce (golden tones with raspberry, lilac and green)
COLOR C Festivus (natural white with speckles)
COLOR D Murky (medium denim blue with gold and moss speckles)

Needles

  • US Size 5 (3.75 mm) and 7 (4.5mm): 16” (40 cm) or 24” (60 cm) circular needle
  • US Size 7 (4.5 mm) set of double pointed needles (DPNs)

Notions

  • 6 stitch markers (5 in one color + 1 in a different color to mark BOR)
  • optional Pom Pom (our Pom is 6” /15.5 cm in diameter)

Gauge
