J's Ugly Sweater Afghan
I love having one project going that takes some time whether it be several months or sometimes even years. I look forward to relaxing with it between more complicated projects. Blocks are small and portable and like most knitters and crocheters, I have a huge stash of leftover balls of yarn. I can’t throw any of them away; who knows when I’ll come up with a project for them? All of my beautiful odds and ends are sorted by weight. I came up with this pattern for two reasons: 1. my largest scrap stash was sport/ lt dk weight (be sure to use the same weight throughout this project) and 2. my grandson wanted an ‘ugly’ afghan for his man cave along the lines of an ugly sweater.
Edited to add: Blocking is a method of stretching and shaping a finished knitted piece to make two pieces that need to match the same size. As the finished blocks are rectangles you will need to block one of your alternating blocks in one direction, quite aggressively to make up for the 1”+ difference in size when arranging for sewing up.
