Order yarn-only kits for the shawl at Marianated Yarns.

Marian of Marianated Yarns was the first indie dyer with whom I ever worked, and many years and collaborations later, I still love to knit with her yarns! In celebration of Marian’s 10-year “Dyerversary”, I designed the Jubilee Shawl in her signature bright colors. A nod to my Compulsive Cowl (a favorite pattern of ours), Jubilee features multiple colors and slipped stitches in an eye-catching pattern. The shawl requires some concentration and effort but the visual payoff is so worth it! Choose from a Midsize shawl in two skeins or the Extra-Large (three-color) in four.

This pattern contains both fully charted and written instructions.

Recommended Yarn:
Marianated Yarns Scrumptious HT - 80% superwash merino / 10% cashmere / 10% nylon - 400 yds (366 m) to 100 g.

Midsize Shawl is shown in Roadhouse (MC—one skein) and Tide Pool Tantrum (CC—one skein). Actual amounts used in Midsize sample were 400 yds (366 m) of blue MC and 400 yds (366 m) of variegated CC, for a total of 800 yds (732 m). This sample was knit at a looser gauge than that given below and thus used more yarn than it would have at the same gauge.

Extra-Large Shawl (main photo) is shown in Amethyst (purple MC - two skeins), Enchanted Watch (blue CC - one skein), and After Party (pink CC - one skein). Actual amounts used in Extra-Large sample were 736 yds (673 m) of purple MC, 372 yds (340 m) of blue CC, and 284 yds (260 m) of pink CC, for a total of 1,392 yds (1,273 m).

PLEASE NOTE: As some yardages in both shawls don’t allow for the 10% cushion that I typically give in patterns, instructions will call for one less contrast band in each size. See pattern for guidance on tracking your yarn usage and calculating if you will be able to knit the shawls to the sizes shown.

Sizing:
Midsize Shawl - 24.5” (62 cm) deep and 51” (130 cm) across
Extra-Large Shawl - 35” (89 cm) deep and 72” (183 cm) across
Sizes are for shawls with 10 (15) repeats. An additional repeat will add 2” (5 cm) to depth and 4” (10 cm) to width.

Blocked Gauge (based on Extra-Large Shawl):
23 sts and 32 rows to 4” (10 cm) in stockinette st, and 23 sts and 41 rows to 4” (10 cm) in Main Body Pattern.

Needles:
US 5 (3.75 mm) circular needle (or size that gives gauge), 32” (80 cm) length or longer, with a US 4 (3.5 mm) needle (or needle one size smaller than main needle) for garter border.

PLEASE NOTE: I knit the sample with a US 6 (4 mm) needle and a US 5 (3.75 mm) for the garter border, but as I tend to knit on the tighter side, I’ve listed needles one size smaller. Changes in gauge will affect finished size, look of motifs, and amount of yarn used. To meet these dimensions and to ensure enough yarn, please use needle size that gives gauge.

Other Materials:
Yarn scale (highly recommended), 3 stitch markers, tapestry needle.
