Ich habe in meiner Jugend ein wundervolles Jahr auf Juist verbracht und seitdem zieht es mich immer wieder auf dieses schöne “Töverland” (Hochdeutsch “Zauberland”). Klaus Peter Wolf läßt in einem seiner Bücher einen Protagonisten folgendes sagen: “Juist ist wie Karibik - aber ohne die nervigen Palmen!”

Als ich dieses Tuch strickte und es im Geiste mit der Rüsche Gestalt annahm, sah ich mein Töverland vor mir, mit der Wattkante und dem in der Sonne glitzernden Wasser.

Einfach zu stricken und einfach zu tragen, war es für mich ein Tuch, das von Anfang bis Ende Spaß gemacht hat.

In my youth I spent a wonderful year on the island of Juist, and since then I am always drawn back to this beautiful “Töverland” (High German “Magic land”). In one of Klaus Peter Wolf’s books, his protagonist says, “Juist is like the Caribbean, but without the pesky palm trees!”
As I knit this and it took shape with the ruffle, in my mind I saw my Töverland before me, with the Wattkante (Watt’s edge) and the water glistening in the sun. (The Watt is an area of shallow coastline and mudflats along the North Sea that extends from The Netherlands through Germany and into Denmark. It is Germany’s largest protected area and abounds with wildlife.)
Easy to knit and easy to wear, this shawl was fun for me from beginning to end.
