Julian the Shelf Elf by Stacey Magliaro

Julian the Shelf Elf

This pattern is available as a free Ravelry download

Julian the Shelf Elf is named for my son, who at three years old is everything naughty and nice. I have taken to locking the cabinet because Julian (the boy) loves to sneak jars of peanut butter and hide on the back porch and eat out of the jar. I can just picture this little elf joining in on the fun! I can’t wait to see all the trouble that the elves you knit get into!

This pattern was created after I saw a need for a holiday elf pattern that is designed to be appealing to children. The elf is knitted mostly in the round with worsted weight yarns and is perfect for using left over bits of yarn. The cardigan sweater and scarf are knitted flat.

MATERIALS
Double pointed needles in size 3 or a size appropriate to create a tight knit.
Straight needles in the same size.
Worsted weight yarn in a flesh tone and three other colors that complement each other (I used blue, grey and green). The yarn I used is Wool of the Andes from Knit Picks.
Bits of fingering yarn or embroidery thread for eyes, hair and mouth.
Dried beans (to weigh it down)
Stuffing
Pencil with eraser (for stuffing legs)
Needle and sewing thread
