As a child, summertime meant playing outside for hours, hanging out with friends, climbing trees and having fun. When there were enough of you to play a game of football (soccer), you would pick teams and use your jumpers (sweaters) for goal posts. The phrase is often used in the UK to evoke the carefree summers of childhood.
The lace panels represent the endless daisy chains that were made, the Snakes and Ladders games played and the crochet border is reminiscent of the swing tennis (tetherball) game I enjoyed playing.

The pattern is both written and charted and designed to make best use of a single 100g skein of sock yarn. The length will vary depending on the yardage of the skein.

FROM NOW UNTIL THE END OF 2011, ALL PROCEEDS FROM THIS PATTERN WILL GO TO THE TRAIN PARK PROJECT TO RAISE FUNDS TO REPLACE PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT IN S.E. CALGARY
