Warm and cozy for guys and gals alike, Just Because is an easy knitted project with a unique crochet edging. Foundation Half-Double Crochet forms the starting edge, then stitches are picked up and knitted in the round to form the body of the cowl, which is finished with a new technique I call Mrs. M’s Mirrored Foundation Half-Double Crochet, or Mfhdc.

Mfhdc is a foundation crochet stitch worked at the end of the project. As the name implies, it’s a mirror image of the starting fhdc edge - and it’s just as sturdy, just as stretchy, just as good-looking.

This pattern will show you how to edge a knitted project with fhdc and Mfhdc. (Ironically, Mfhdc works best on a knitted fabric - but I’ll post a tutorial soon on how to use it with a crocheted fabric too.)

The pattern includes short video tutorials on regular fhdc, picking up and knitting stitches from an fhdc strip, and how to make Mrs. M’s Mfhdc.

Pattern can be made any size you like, in any yarn you like, with the appropriate size hook/needles.

Skill Level: Suitable for intermediate crocheters with basic knitting skills.

The free pattern with tutorial can be found on my blog (see link below).

Thanks for viewing, and happy crocheting! (And knitting.) :)
