Notes From the Designer:

•Kai is a triangle shawl with a tapestry of color, texture, and a delicious blend of little flowers in a lattice trellis. This shawl provides a comforting warmth with the feeling of peace and joy felt by the warm tropical winds blowing in from the sea. This design works up quickly with alternating rows featuring simple textures using basic stitches.

•For the sample, 4 colors were used to give a delicate striped effect. You could use 1, 2 or 4 colors, changing with each section, or a gradient or fade/ombre effect with one color completing the four unique stitch patterns, and a second completing the next section (which is a repeat of those 4 stitch patterns), and so on.

•Repeating these sections as many or few times as you wish can make your shawl longer or shorter down the spine to the lower point of the triangle.

•Pattern includes written instructions and charts!

My inspiration for this design is the dreams I have of the flowers I will be planting in my gardens. I plan on using tropical flowers of various colors to create a tapestry of fragrance, warmth, and peace. The focal flowers that I plan on using have been named Kai by the grower. When researching the name, I found that Kai is a Hawaiian name that means sea. This meaning brought me a feeling of peace and joy. I knew immediately that those feelings are what I wanted the design to reflect, so I chose the stitch patterns Little Flower and Lattice Lace to incorporate peace and joy into the shawl.
