Cables are just pure luxury, don’t you think? This throw blanket is full of them, intertwining to create gorgeous diamonds across the main field of the blanket.

This pattern is named for my cousin Kaiya, for whom the original design was created. As a woman and a nurse, Kaiya has a passion for sharing the story of her journey with pregnancy loss and infertility in order to help others, and in her honour, $3 from the sale of every pattern will go directly to the Lois Hole Hospital for Women Foundation.

My own two youngest daughters were born from high-risk pregnancies in this hospital, so supporting their programs for women’s health is truly a personal privilege. Please know how grateful I am for helping me to contribute by downloading and knitting this pattern!

This blanket is meant to be knit by hand, using seed stitch for the borders and cable stitches to create the diamond pattern in the main body of the blanket. You will need:

  • 10 mm (US size 15) 14” knitting needles
  • Cable needle
  • Darning needle
  • Scissors
  • 7 (8 oz; 170 yard) skeins of super bulky yarn. Approx. 1,190-1500 yards total. (This pattern was written for use with Atelier False Holly Thick & Thin Troelli yarn.)
  • Blocking pads and pins
  • Optional: stitch markers, for marking your cables; felting needle, for joining yarns without knots; measuring tape.
