Silk Road

The camels tread with steady pace
and on we walk through dust and haze.
Then desert sands we leave behind
reach rocky ground, sky open wide,
I strain my eyes, I think I might
see glimpse of green, rest is in sight!

Silks and stories from afar
we trade with people in Kashgar
Cashmere and Silk, and gemstones are
up for grabs in the bazaar.

Instructions for all the shawls in the Wayfarer path are available both charted and written (line by line)

Kashgar, is named after an Oasis trading town that
sits on the far western edge of the Taklamakan Desert.
At the crossroads of cultures, a center of trade,
with goods from east, west and south exchanged
hands here — Silk, mohair, wool, gemstones, and
animals.

This bottom up shawl starts with a pretty peacock
edge and beads for the southern routes from India,
fibers from the east and west, and textural interest
in the transparent lattice sections.
After the lace section, simple bands of shortrows allow
the shawl to gracefully curve, its crescent shape
sitting safely on the shoulders.
