Katakena is an intermediate ability shawl using 2 constrasting yarns. This shawl is based on the basic heart shaped shawl (2 increases on each edge and 2 increases down the center) but has added garter short row wedeges to influence the overall shape making it wider and shorter than than the usual heart shaped shawl. Swt is used with garter stitch where the wrap blends with the stitch pattern so there is no need to “hide” the wrap on subsequent rows.

This design begins with a stockinette stitch tab cast on (worked just like garter tab cast on) which created a rolled edge that mimics an icord cast on but because stitches are worked on each row, doesn’t tend to pull edges.

Alternating eyelet, garter, and texture stitches created an interesting, but easy knit that ends with a reverse stockinette stitch rolled edge.
